Embracing Lifestyle Changes

Lifestyle ChangesThe first step in adopting a healthy lifestyle is consciousness; being conscious about what you eat, what you do, what you think. Consciousness about your heath invites you to be in touch with your body (listen), to become informed (learn) and to take action (do). Being conscious reminds you that you can no longer pretend that you do not know what to do.

Why would I want to adopt a healthy lifestyle? … and believe me there are a lot of you out there who, deep down, harbour this thought as your number one excuse to not take action. Oh you are so human! Ageing and its’ effects on the body are inevitable … but how you age is not! And that is the most powerful reason for adopting a healthy lifestyle and embracing the efforts necessary for making those changes.

Tips for Making Lifestyle Changes:

  • Be aware of what you eat, what you do and how you think.
  • Make change by making healthy choices.
  • Set an attainable objective. ie. quit smoking, cut out fast food, stop complaining
  • Make a plan, rally support. ie. join a class, walk after dinner, find a partner
  • Take action on a daily basis because small efforts add up.
  • Don’t give up. Every day is a chance to start again in some simple way.
  • Breathe, relax and enjoy. Every day.

Don’t forget: health is also freedom.

At around 45, you suddenly realize that you just can’t get away anymore with ignoring the issue of your health. You are beginning to feel the first symptoms of pain and dis – ease, which are the result of too much stress, too much wear and tear, and not enough balanced exercise and healthy food. This pain and dis – ease reflects that your cells are beginning to suffer from deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, enzymes, fibres (to name some) and from an accumulation of stress hormones, toxins and fat cells. You are feeling the effects of free radical damage, inflammation, hormonal imbalance and perhaps even insulin tolerance (which can lead to insulin resistance and Diabetes Type 2 if unchecked).

Chronic disease does not just fall from the sky! The degeneration of your different body parts (articulations, bones, organ function, heart and blood vessels, muscles, skin, eyes, etc.) is caused, over time, by these deficiencies and accumulations, and the resulting system imbalances. I have not even factored in yet the impact of genetic predisposition, past injuries or other infectious diseases.

All to say, the body is designed to heal itself, but without the building blocks of good nutrition, exercise and positive mental outlook, its ability to do so is impaired. Lifestyle changes then, with regard to diet, exercise, attitude and stress management, are the pillars of prevention.

Don’t take your health for granted! Take action now before chronic diseases set in. Take action now and managing what ever symptoms you may have. Take action now and cultivate vibrant good health for a long and healthy life. It is never too late to start! Many of my clients have remarked that they feel better now at 65 (since they started exercising on a regular basis) than they did at 45! And that is the truth.

Make a choice for positive change. As we live longer vibrant good health is a must. Embrace lifestyle change … and if you need some guidance and motivation come join me for winter fitness classes.
